Mary C. Thorsby (RPh, MS, MBA) has over 15 years of experience with Medicare and Managed Care in both patient and client facing roles. She has considerable experience in strategic planning, operations, pharmacy benefit strategy and service delivery for managed health plans.
As a Senior Consultant with Visante, Mary provides Part D clinical leadership with strengths in cross-functional collaboration, relationship building and communications.
Prior to joining Visante, Mary was Senior Director, Strategic Accounts at Express Scripts, Inc. where she managed a team responsible for one of the company’s largest clients with over $2.2B in annual drug spend. Her strengths in business and contract negotiations led to several successful multi-billion dollar renewal contracts. She was also responsible for advising the clients Board of Directors on upcoming regulatory changes and initiated and implemented a benefit review process transforming a large percentage of health plan business from a flat 2-tier copay structure to a 3-tier structure.
Previous, Mary was a Senior Executive of National Accounts at Medco Health Solutions. Requested specifically by the CEO, Mary was asked to lead three client-dedicated teams to manage the delivery, maintenance, and improvements of pharmacy benefits for commercial accounts with over 5 million members. She developed and led the team to implement a focused sales strategy, which led to an average 2% increase in membership.
Prior to this, Mary held positions as both Director and Senior Director of the Specialty Pharmacy Division at Medco Health Solutions. She developed a 5-year specialty pharmacy strategy for their largest health plan that saved over 10 million dollars and expanded access to patients requiring specialty medications.
Additionally, Mary has held various leadership roles within the inpatient hospital setting. During her tenure at a nationally known teaching hospital, she expanded the roles of pharmacists and technicians to be part of a direct-care-team. She also instituted processes and protocols enabling efficiencies for medicine administrations, consultations, treatments, and reductions in length of stay, re-admissions, and non-compliance.
Mary received a Bachelors degree in Pharmacy and a Masters in Pharmacy Administration from Wayne State University. Mary also received a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
