Michael Powell (RPh, MS) provides counsel on all aspects of hospital and health system pharmacy for Visante clients, helping them to develop and implement strategies to advance the business of pharmacy in their organizations.
Michael’s extensive and successful track record in healthcare strategy, hospital and health system leadership, and innovation in the pharmacy and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries is a valuable asset for Visante clients. Michael is a highly respected speaker and author, has served on numerous industry boards, and is considered an expert in many areas of healthcare and innovation.
Before joining Visante, Michael served as the Executive Director of Pharmacy and Nutrition Care at the Nebraska Medical Center where he was responsible for Pharmacy Services at a 624-bed tertiary care teaching hospital with cancer care, solid organ transplantation, cardio-pulmonary and trauma as primary service lines in the Nebraska Medical Center, its owned hospitals (Bellevue Medical Center and Fairfax Community Hospital) and affiliated clinics and remote pharmacy services to 14 small community hospitals. His responsibilities included administrative accountability for the Nebraska Regional Poison Center and Nutritional Services.
At Nebraska Medical Center, Michael launched specialty pharmacy and contract pharmacy services and developed pharmacy benefits management services, among other important initiatives. As a result, the organization experienced significant growth in revenue and delivered excellent service.
Prior to Nebraska Medical Center, Michael was the Director of Pharmacy Services at MetroHealth System in Cleveland, the Associate Director of Pharmacy Services at Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health center and served in additional pharmacy leadership roles at the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital and Brady Memorial Clinics in San Antonio. He has also been a consultant for pharmaceutical companies, healthcare and academic institutions, and technology companies.
Michael resides with his family in Minden, Iowa.
