SOLVING THE PHARMACY TECHNICIAN SHORTAGE
Nathaniel Sesin
Senior Consultant

Nathaniel (Nate) Sesin (CPhT, Willow Inpatient Certified Analyst) is a Senior Consultant at Visante who specializes in pharmacy operations and informatics. He works with healthcare systems to optimize and create customized solutions to fit their needs. One of his strengths is understanding pharmacy operations at all levels and building plans to accomplish the department's goals.

Most recently, Nate was a Pharmacy Systems Analyst III with Lahey Health in Burlington, MA where he managed and maintained various software applications in a multi-hospital system. He was also a member of several system-based committees and workgroups where he provided valuable input based on his knowledge of software capabilities and operational challenges. Nate has over eight years of Epic build and maintenance experience. This includes dispense logic, verification rules, medication build, barcode maintenance, and clinical alternatives for therapeutic interchange or medication shortages. He has over 15 years of experience with BD software solutions including Pyxis and Logistics. He has coordinated multiple projects with an interdisciplinary team including, but not limited to: IT, pharmacy, nursing, and anesthesia for smooth project implementations while minimizing downtime. Nate has optimized pharmacy inventory management in order to save money for the institution. 

Prior to this, Nate was a Pharmacy Systems Coordinator and Lead Pharmacy Technician. He managed inpatient pharmacy technicians and ensured that medications were prepared and delivered safely and on time. Nate was the lead project manager for all Pyxis and Logistics upgrades. He designed and configured Pyxis formulary records, device settings, and user role privileges. Nate also worked closely with the interface teams to map and test the content of the HL7 messages, confirming the accuracy of patient and order information.

Nate completed a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston, MA. He also minored in Marketing and Management to further understand the business side of pharmacy.
