Sara Rainey (BS, PharmD, RPh, 340B ACE) provides 340B program consulting for Visante’s clients. Her extensive experience and success in managing 340B programs in hospitals and health systems translates into deep expertise for Visante’s clients, including all types of Covered Entities (CEs). Sara’s leadership and interpersonal skills are key to helping clients reach their program compliance and performance goals.
Sara’s experience includes 340B program compliance oversight, regular financial reviews, purchasing procedures for specialty and non-specialty drugs, contract review and negotiation, communication and collaboration with multiple departments at the hospital and health system levels and with outside vendors as well as employee training and development. In these roles, Sara was successful at increasing revenue, improving compliance and leading successful teams.
Sara was Pharmacy Manager of the 340B Drug Savings Program at Indiana University Health where she provided pharmacy oversight for the program relative to the Adult Academic Health Center, which includes 5 hospitals, and actively participated in additional system pharmacy 340B initiatives. She was able to identify financial opportunities for both lost savings and revenue for the program and was leader of the 340B Optimization Committee for the IU Health System.
As the 340B Pharmacy Specialist at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple (Temple, Texas), Sara grew a 340B program to a value of more than $98 million per year in combined savings and revenue with over 150 eligible outpatient areas and 97 active contract pharmacies. She expanded the contract pharmacy business by more than double in five years generating an estimated annual revenue of more than $52 million. Additionally, she was the leader of that facility’s 340B Governance Committee and frequently served as an expert reference for other covered entities within the health system.
Sara previously worked in clinical and staff pharmacist positions in the hospital and retail pharmacy settings. She is currently a licensed pharmacist in both Indiana and Texas.
Sara earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Samford University, holds a BS in Biology from Campbellsville University, and is currently a candidate for a Master of Business Administration degree with Healthcare Management Emphasis from West Texas A&M University. Sara is a 340B Apexus Certified Expert.
