As a Senior Consultant with Visante, Steven Gray works with hospitals and health systems across the country to help them advance the business of pharmacy in their organizations.
Steve’s professional career focus has been on pharmacy law and compliance and advocacy to expand and enrich the practice of pharmacy. His more than 40 years of pharmacy experience includes the U.S. Army, retail/community and hospital practice, traditional and cGMP compounding, pharmaceutical repackaging, wholesaling, residency program administration, drug benefit administration, and more.
Prior to joining Visante, Steve was a senior leader at Kaiser Permanente where most recently he was the National Pharmacy Professional Affairs Leader. In this role, Steven oversaw pharmacy governmental affairs and public policy, including sponsorship of pharmacy practice and related state legislation, collaboration with consumer and health professional organizations, monitoring of legislative, regulatory and public health policy issues and proposals at the federal, state and local levels. He also advised leadership for Regulatory Compliance and Regulatory Proposal Development, Pharmacy Regulatory Policy and Procedure Development, among other key areas.
At Kaiser Permanente, Steve was also the Pharmacy Compliance Leader for California Regions, the Manager of the Southern California Regional Pharmacy Support Services, Staff Assistant to the Regional Director of Pharmacy Operations, and many pharmacy roles in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including several chief pharmacist roles.
Steven holds a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Northrop University School of Law, Los Angeles, and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Southern California. He completed the Advanced Leadership Program at the Kenan-Flagler Business School in North Carolina – Chapel Hill, and the Executive Management Institute in Health Care, Center of Excellent in Health Care Management at the University of Southern California.
Steve is a licensed California pharmacist and attorney and has been very active in pharmacy legislative and regulatory affairs for many years. He has served in numerous leadership roles with industry groups in law and pharmacy and is a sought-after speaker and author. Steve is a State Bar member and Assistant Professor for Pharmacy Law and Ethics at the University of California San Diego. He is active in AMCP, APhA, and ASHP and is the Immediate past President of the American Society for Pharmacy Law. He is also s a past President of CPhA, CSHP and AMCP.
